Gillian is an arts writer, editor, and advocate interested in propelling the arts to an ever wider and more diverse audience. She recently completed her M.A. in Arts Administration / Cultural Policy at Columbia University and is currently Dance Editor at the Brooklyn Rail. Her thesis compares French with American approaches to arts funding and programming engaging religious diversity.
Born in San Francisco, Gillian grew up in Brooklyn where she attended Packer Collegiate Institute. She graduated with high honors from the Residential College of the University of Michigan with a double major in "Arts and Ideas in the Humanities" (an interdisciplinary history of the visual, performing, and literary arts) and "French and Francophone Studies.”
Her primary influence has been her golden retriever, Ollie, with whom she grew up since the second grade. He is pictured here at his bar mitzvah.
